Biography

Art has become my lens for exploring the complexities of human experience, transforming my journey as a painter into one that is both deeply personal and universal. Through my work, I strive to evoke emotions that connect us all.
Growing up in a small agricultural town in California's Central Valley, I had little exposure to fine arts. Painting entered my life unexpectedly in my early 20s, after an expansive journey through Europe’s artistic heritage sparked a lifelong passion.
My professional path began in the sciences and evolved into oral medicine and psychology. Yet it was the emotional power of painting - its ability to capture the depths of human feeling and unconscious processes - that reshaped my life. My work conveys this process, often emphasizing the expressiveness of subjects' eyes and hands.
For over 40 years, I have embraced the intricate challenge of portraying the human condition, focusing on the emotions, connections, and intuitive experiences that define us. This dedication led me to study at several Bay Area institutions, including the San Francisco Art Institute, the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, and the University of California Extension among others. Alongside my artistic pursuits, I earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Since 1989, I've maintained a clinical practice, integrating my understanding of human behavior into my art.
My artistic perspective has been further enriched by workshops and studies in cultural hubs like New York and Florence, Italy. For the past 37 years, I've been part of the vibrant artistic community at Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco. The creative exchange with fellow artists in this community has been illuminating and continues to inspire and refine my work.
